BY-LAWS OF INDEPENDENCE COUNCIL #49,

CRYPTIC MASONS

ARTICLE I

SECTION 1. Name and Location. The title of this body is Independence Council Number 49, of Cryptic Masons, located at 120 S. Pleasant Street, Independence, Missouri.

ARTICLE II

SECTION 1. STATED ASSEMBLIES. The Stated Assemblies of this Council shall be held on the fourthThursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. except for November and December, when they shall be held on the Second Thursday in joint session with Independence Chapter number 12 Royal Arch Masons at 7:00 p.m. No Stated Assembly will be held during the months of July and August.

SECTION 2. SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES. Special Assemblies may be called by the Illustrious Master or may be called by action of the Council as provided for by Grand Council By-Laws. The purpose of the call shall be stated in the notice and business confined thereto.

SECTION 3. QUORUM. A Quorum for any Assembly must consists of nine (9)  Select Masters, members of the Council or five members of this Council and four other companions of any other Council  including one (1) qualified Officer to open the same.

ARTICLE III

SECTION 1. OFFICERS. The Officers of this Council are such as prescribed by the By-Laws of the Grand Council.

SECTION 2. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The  Illustrious Master,   Deputy Master,  Principal  Conductor of the Work, Treasurer and Recorder are elected annually at the Stated Assembly in April, and no nominations may be made for any office. All other Officers are appointed by the Illustrious Master.  Installation  of  Officers shall be in conjunction with that of Independence Chapter No.12 Royal  Arch  Masons, at the discretion of the  Illustrious Master Elect, and the High Priest Elect and after the Annual Convocation of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons and the Annual Assembly of the Grand Council Cryptic Masons of Missouri.

SECTION 3. DUTIES. The duties of the Officers of this Council are such as prescribed by the By-Laws of the Grand Council of Missouri.

SECTION 4. RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS. It shall be the duty of the Recorder and Treasurer, respectively, to see that all monies of the Council are safely received and deposited in a banking account approved by the Council.

The Treasurer shall pay out only such money as may be ordered by  the Council on warrants drawn by the Recorder and counter-signed by the Illustrious Master.

ARTICLE IV

SECTION 1- SALARIES. The Treasurer shall be paid for his services $20.00 per annum. The Secretary  shall be  paid for his  services  the  amount  of $1.00 per member per annum. Membership calculation shall be based on highest membership attained during Council year.

ARTICLE  V

SECTION 1. PETITIONS AND FEES. Petitions for the Degrees shall be on the form prescribed by the  Grand Council,  and  shall  be accompanied by a fee of $50.00.

SECTION 2. ANNUAL DUES. The Annual Dues of this Council shall be $40.00 plus the Grand Council Per Capita Tax. The Dues are due and payable on the first(lst)day of January and shall become delinquent if not paid by the first (lst)day of July, following.

ARTICLE  VI

SECTION 1. AMENDMENTS. Amendments to these By-Laws must be presented in writing and read at a Stated Assembly.  No action  shall be taken thereon until the succeeding Stated Assembly and only after due notice to its members. A two-thirds majority of the members present and voting shall be required for adoption. All amendments shall be approved by the Grand Master  of  the  Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of the state of Missouri  before they shall become effective. Any By-Laws conflicting with the regulations of the Grand Council of Missouri shall  be automatically amended to conform thereto.
